These are a selection of small, permanent,
magnets that you may use when looking at magnets in school. Each
magnet has a north and a south pole. The horse-shoe magnet allows
both ends of the magnet to attract a magnetic metal towards
it.
Magnets attract some metals, such as iron,
nickel, cobalt, and some alloys. You can magnetise a piece of one
of these metals by stroking it with a magnet.
