Alan and Lucy Richmond
Alan and Lucy met in 1988 while developing software
for managing data from the HST. Alan was at the Space Telescope
Coordinating Facility in Germany, Lucy was at the Space Telescope
Science Institute in the USA.
Neil was born in Cambridge, England, in 1990, and Mark
was born in Grenoble, France, in 1992. We now live in Herefordshire, England.
We founded the Web Developer's Virtual Library in 1994; it was the first commercial web site for
web developers. We sold it, supported it for one more year, then
founded EncycloZine in 1998 - the first site written in XHTML.
We developed EncycloZine for nearly 3 years before deciding that our
extensive content would be perfectly suited to an online book store.
Our carefully designed content structures (a shallow, richly
cross-linked hierarchy) serves as 'virtual bookshelves', making it easy
for you to quickly locate topics and books of interest.
We operate Curious Minds,
an online store for games, puzzles, and science kits and toys.
I'm Alan Richmond.
I was a software developer
for several international scientific research institutes & projects,
e.g. the HST. I was a web developer since
1993, starting at NASA/GSFC (near Washington, DC). I founded the Web Developer's Virtual Library,
the web's
first commercial web site for web developers.
I founded EncycloZine, the web's first XHTML site, in November 1998.
